The Northern Cape's administrative and long-haul crossroads
Kimberley is the seat of the Northern Cape's provincial government and the anchor of the Sol Plaatje Municipality, and it sits at the geographic centre of southern Africa's long-haul road network. The N12 runs through Kimberley connecting Johannesburg to Cape Town, the N8 runs east–west between Bloemfontein and Upington, and the R64 connects to Welkom and the Free State goldfields. That crossroads geography defines the Kimberley transport market: substantial local corporate and government contract work, layered onto some of the country's most-run long-haul corridor volume.
